Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES CHARLES CARTER (JIMMY) We announce the peaceful passing into glory of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather Jimmy on May 4, 2008 at home at the age of 83. He was predeceased by his father Charles, his mother Anne, his sister Carmen and an infant brother. Jimmy was born to Charles and Anne Carter (nee Sheriff) on October 17, 1924 in Gibraltar. At the tender age of nine months his father died leaving his mother to raise him. At the outbreak of the Second World War the civilian population of Gibraltar was evacuated to London where he met the love of his life, also from Gibraltar, Josephine Estella. Towards the end of the war they were relocated to Northern Ireland, where they married on December 20, 1944. After the war they moved back to Gibraltar where he joined the Gibraltar Defence Force, later to be known as the Gibraltar Regiment. He quickly rose to the rank of Sergeant. In subsequent years moves were made to England and then back to Gibraltar, England again and back to Gibraltar. In 1969 he left the Gibraltar Regiment to move to Winnipeg to be close to his son Clive and family. He worked at Flyer Industries until his retirement. He is survived by his wife Josie of 63 years; his son Clive (Maria) of Winnipeg, daughter Wilma (Bryn) of Plymouth, England; grandchildren James (Kim), Jason (Gina), Belinda (Chris), and John (Shannon) in Winnipeg; Carl (Joanne), Jonathan, Tracey (Graham) and Ian in Plymouth, England; eleven great-grandchildren in Winnipeg and seven in Plymouth; nephew Derek (Susan) in Bradford, England, and numerous other family in England, Gibraltar and Canada. He was a member of A.C.C. Church from the beginning and an elder for a few years. He also pastored a Spanish speaking church for a few years until ill health forced him to retire. He will be missed but we know that we will be with him again one day. A special thanks to first responders and emergency staff at the Grace General Hospital. A celebration of his life will be held at A.C.C. Church, 760 Charleswood Road, on Friday, May 9, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. A private family burial will take place prior to the celebration.
