ERIC RODERICK SWAN June 17, 1968 - May 3, 2008 Suddenly on Saturday, May 3, 2008, Eric R. Swan aged 39 years of Lake Manitoba First Nation. Eric was taken from us by the Creator. He was the youngest son of six siblings. Eric was a carpenter by trade. He enjoyed fishing, cutting wood, hunting, occasionally playing bingo and helping out on the family farm. He enjoyed spending time with his buddies, especially visiting in the shack. In his earlier years, Eric lived in Winnipeg, where he worked with his brothers excavating basements. He also went to Edmonton and Calgary to find work there. He then moved back to Lake Manitoba where he worked as a carpenter and acquired his carpenter's certificate. He was always working and doing something to keep himself busy. Eric also was employed with Sigfusson Northern for a time. Eric had a circle of close friends that he spent a lot of time with, namely Clarence Paul, Rick Kaartinen, Russell McLean, Christopher McLean, Lyle Maytwayashing, his uncle Stash (Stanley Maytwayashing), Marvin McLean, Byron Swan, Tracy Spence, Little Leslie Maytwayashing, Audrey Swan, Wesley Chippeway, Roland Mousseau and Eldon McLean. Eric leaves to mourn his passing his girlfriend Lorie Maytwayashing, his son Adam and daughter Alycia Fontaine, his mom Evelyn, auntie Lillian (Ralph), his sisters Andrea (Berry), Laura and Tina, his brothers John (Susan), Dudley (Pam), Barry (Mary) and Mike, his nieces and nephews Cameron, Preston, Karen, Blair (godson), Lindsey, Barry Jr., Trisha, Tomahawk, Avery, Martin, Todd, Jacynda, and his other godson Nolan Maytwayashing. Eric was also a Baba (grandpa) to all the little kids in the family, and he never failed to show his love and affection to all them. He was predeceased by his dad Angus in 2002, his brothers Bruce in 1987 and Freeman in 2002. A wake service will be held at his mother Evelyn Swan's residence starting at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2008. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, May 9, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church with Father Paul Tinguely officiating. Interment to follow at Lake Manitoba Cemetery. A luncheon with family will follow at the Lake Manitoba Band Hall. Active pallbearers will be his brothers John Swan, Dudley Swan, Barry Swan, his brother-in-law Berry McLean, his uncle Stanley Maytwayashing and his friend Rick Kaartinen. Honourary pallbearers will be his buddies, friends and all who knew him. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Lakeshore General Hospital, Ashern Fire department, Lakeshore Ambulance Paramedics, the staff and doctors at the Health Sciences Centre; your hospitality, efforts and assistance was greatly appreciated.
