MADALENE ROSE KOWALSKY (nee GEALL) It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother and Nana on May 4, 2008 a month shy of her 83rd birthday. Madalene will be greatly missed by her children: daughters, Janice Penner (Harold), Gloria Cardwell-Hoeppner (Barry), son Tom Kowalsky; grandchildren, Kathryne Kouk (Michael) Zachary, Christopher, Thomas, and Curtis; sister Kath; sister-in-law Ollie, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas Kowalsky, her parents Lillian (Holden) and Harry Geall, and siblings Muriel, Eve, Pat and Jack. Mom, the youngest, was born in Winnipeg on June 4, 1925. She met and married Tom in Point Douglas and they moved to Elmwood to raise their three children. With the children grown, Madalene worked at the Coca Cola bottling plant and later as a valued volunteer guide for many years at St. Boniface Hospital. Mom always had health challenges and spent much of her later years in a motorized wheelchair and was often seen speeding through the malls or up Henderson Highway. She enjoyed trips to California to visit Janice, never forgot birthdays or anniversaries and looked forward to every family gathering. She cherished her cats, Crystal and Kelly and loved to feed strays. Our thanks to Diane, Mom's special home care worker and to Marion a good neighbour who always looked out for Mom. Mom, God saw how tired you were and took you home, but you will be in our heart always. Memorial Service will be held on Monday, May 12 at 7:00 p.m. at Transcona United Church, 209 Yale West. Private interment will follow at a later date. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
