LEO GERARD CHAGNON Leo Chagnon passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 7, 2008 at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora at the age of 86 years. Leo was born on December 2, 1921 near Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba. Leo is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Marguerite (nee Bisaillon), sons, Roland (Sue) and Norman (Darlene); daughters, Terri Favreau, Paulie (Floyd) Triskle, Marci and Jeanne; 10 grandchildren: Leo, Dale, Linda, Sandy, Frank, Debbie, Guy, Nadine, Tracey, and Louise and 21 great-grandchildren. Also left to cherish his memory are brother Armand (Roma), sisters, Leah (Jerry) Sharpe and Yvonne Berthelette, brothers-in-law, Paul Alarie and Fred Gauthier as well as many very special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Donat and Marcelline, brothers, Ben (Bernie) and Stan St. Croix; sisters, Beatrice Cyr, Alice Chevrefils Gauthier and Jeannette Alarie; son-in-law Don Favreau and other in-laws in Quebec. Leo had many talents and various jobs in his younger years and worked driving trucks, cutting wood in the bush, loading wood onto rail cars at McIntosh, highway construction, then as a backhoe operator, first for Uncle Ben, then for the Town of Keewatin for 21 years until his retirement in 1986. He was a volunteer fire fighter with the Keewatin Fire Department from 1967 to 1986. Dad had a very strong work ethic that he passed down to his children with pride. Dad enjoyed the outdoors with fishing up north, hunting with his boys, and helping his kids with their many projects being some of his favourite things. In later years he enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, watching sports and mass on TV and coffee at McDonalds on Saturday mornings. His life revolved around his family, and we will miss his wisdom and quiet strength. A Memorial Mass to celebrate Leo's life was held on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Louis Roman Catholic Church in Keewatin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation , 11 Sylvan Street, Kenora, ON P9N 3W7.
