BARBARA LOUISE WALKER With courage and dignity, Barbara Louise Walker, age 56, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 8th 2008 at the Grace Hospital after a long struggle with cancer. Barbara is survived by her loving and devoted husband Ed Walker, her two daughters, Meaghan and Jennifer; parents, Wigon (Bill) and Vi Renkewitz; her sister Janice Deck; her two nephews, Martin and Kevin Deck; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. Barbara was born September 7th, 1951 and was educated in Brandon, Manitoba. The family relocated to Winnipeg in 1968 where she continued her education and pursued a career, graduating as an X-ray Technician in 1973. Barbara enjoyed working in her field at several facilities including the Mall Medical, Misericordia Hospital, Manitoba Clinic and the Deer Lodge Hospital. She also worked at several hospitals in London, England during her European travels. Barbara ceased all but part time X-Ray work in 1987 and focused on the arrival and loving care of her two daughters as an active stay at home mother as well as performing many community volunteer and charitable activities. Barbara's passion was in her love of travelling. She had the opportunity to visit many locations throughout Canada, Europe, the United States, Mexico, New Zealand and Australia. Even though she was very ill, Barbara and her husband still managed to visit Churchill in October 2007 to view the polar bears. Barbara's other hobbies were in her love for photography and in her enjoyment and passion for curling. She also had a great interest in politics and always loved to discuss current events with family and friends. The family wishes to thank Dr. Krahn and all the medical staff at St. Boniface and Grace Hospitals for their wonderful support and care. We are very grateful to all our relatives, friends and Barbara's Cancer Support Group for their continuing kindness and assistance. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with visitation being held on Monday, May 12, 2008 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. also at Chapel Lawn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba, 1160 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9. God saw you getting tired And a cure was not to be He wrapped you with His loving arms And whispered, come to me. You suffered much in silence, Your spirit did not bend, You faced your pain with courage, Until the very end, You tried so hard to stay, Your fight was all in vain, God took you to his loving home, And freed you from the pain. You are not forgotten loved one, Nor will you ever be, As long as life and memory last, I will remember thee. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
