Peacefully on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, after a brief struggle with ALS, Gordon passed away at the Victoria General Hospital surrounded by his family. Gordon will be sadly missed by his loving wife, best friend and companion of 50 years, Dolores; brother Norm Hawkins (Diane); sisters-in-law, Simone Hawkins, Marguerite Hawkins, Isabelle (George) Kelly and Roberta (Stephen) Franklin; brother-in-law Ken Catton; as well as many nieces and nephews who held a special place in their hearts and always considered him as their favourite uncle. He was predeceased by his parents Alton and Melvina; brothers, Allen, Lloyd and Leonard; niece Donna; father and mother-in-law Robert and Harriet Squires; and sister-in-law Doreen Catton. Employed at Canada Cement Lafarge, Gordon retired after 38 years of service. In compliance with Gordon's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Many thanks to the Emergency and Nursing staff on North 4 at the Victoria General Hospital for all their kindness, compassion and care shown to Gordon. The family also wishes to thank Dianna Rasmussen of the ALS Society for all her care and concern. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gordon's memory to the ALS Society, 2109 Portage Avenue, Room N108, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3J 0L3. Never was an uncle loved so much By so many nieces and nephews So many memories shared by all Will never be forgotten Those special days won't be the same Without your smiling face How can we not have you there? Now just an empty space We know you rest in heaven now Peace at last, no pain Happy to be with loved ones gone To see them once again Words can never say enough How hard it is to part How much you meant to each of us So special in our hearts Love Teresa
