JEAN HAYKA July 25, 1932 - May 5, 2008 Peacefully after a lengthy illness; it is with deep regret that we announce the death of our mother on Monday, May 5, 2008 in Winnipeg at the age of 75 years. Remaining to forever cherish Jean's memory are her beloved husband of 58 years of marriage, John Hayka; daughters Maryann Dick (Bill), Rose Anne Skoropata; grandson David Dick (Sarah); greatgrandchildren Emily and Reese Dick; brother William (Vicky); sisters Anne (Mickey) Lena (Blake) and Elsie (David); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her father John and mother Eileen Chopek and sister Helen. As a loving homemaker, she enjoyed collecting recipes, embroidering, sewing, flowers and gardening. With her knowledge of herbs Mom helped others through illness. Based on her Christian Faith she enrolled and obtained a certificate in a Bible Study course. She also completed the St. John's Ambulance course. And with her love and compassion for others, Jean volunteered at Oakview Place Senior's Home. Mom was an inspiration to us all. A service of remembrance celebrating Jean's life will be held on Sunday, May 18 at 2:30 p.m. in the Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Avenue (corner of Mount Royal Road and Ness Avenue). For those who wish, additional parking is available in the Seventh Day Adventist Church parking lot located on Ness Avenue. Special thanks to the St. Boniface Hospital; 5A Cardiology Staff and special thanks to resident Jonathan Gabor for his kindness and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean's memory to the Living Church of God, P.O. Box 409, Mississauga, ON, L5M 2B9, Reference # 20408040006. Footprints One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him and the other to the Lord. When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the paths of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life. This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it. Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me. The Lord replied, My son, my precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trials and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you. Author Unknown
