MARGARET SELLEY Margaret Selley passed away peacefully in Winnipeg on May 8, 2008, in her 103rd year. She was born in England on November 30, 1905, and came to Canada with her parents, Thomas and Mary Alice Chicken in 1910. They settled in Culross, MB, moving later to Elm Creek, MB after her father died in 1918. Margaret trained as a school teacher, and taught in several rural schools until 1927, when she and Arthur P. Selley were married, and settled in Fannystelle, MB. They moved to Winnipeg in 1950, and in 1959 they moved to Roland, MB. When Art retired in 1969 they moved back to Winnipeg. Her beloved husband Art predeceased her in 1990. She was the last member of her family, being predeceased by her parents, by her brothers, Bill, John, Tom and Joe Chicken, and by her sister Gladys Fawcett. She is survived by her four children, Doug (Sheila MacKinnon) of Ottawa, ON, Yvonne (Lyle Anderson) of Grand Forks, ND, Shirley (Don Harper) of Calgary, AB, and Ron (Lorna Young) of Winnipeg, 12 grandchildren spread from Nova Scotia to British Columbia in Canada and in North Dakota and Colorado in the United States, and 21 great-grandchildren. One grandchild, David Harper, predeceased her. Margaret was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt to her extended family, and was never as happy as when with her relatives, either in her home or theirs. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Heritage Lodge for their compassionate and loving care in her last years. Family and friends are invited to a service in memory of Margaret at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Avenue (entrance on Aubrey Street), on Tuesday, May 13 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 or to Heritage Lodge, 3555 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3K 0X2.
