SOPHIE JACKSON (nee GAWDIN) Sophie Jackson of Winnipeg, passed away after a brief illness on May 3, 2008. She was born February 1923 in the Wroxton district, near Yorkton, Saskatchewan. She was the daughter of Michael and Barbara (Parasyna) Gawdin. She had 11 siblings (five brothers and six sisters). She left home at a young age and went to work in Winnipeg. Later she met and married Walter Jackson. Sophie and Walter had two sons, Alfred and Douglas. Sophie is survived by her devoted son, Douglas. He faithfully visited his mother in the nursing home while she was a resident there. They enjoyed each others company as well as snacks at the Miz café in the Misericordia Nursing Home. Surviving are brother Bill (Vancouver, BC), sisters, Eileen (Lampshire) Kenora, ON, Jean (Bynski) Winnipeg, MB, Lillian (Howard Peppler) Saskatoon, SK, Edith (Terry Peppler) Saskatoon, SK. Also surviving is sister-in-law Betty Gawdin, Vancouver, BC, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Sophie was predeceased by her parents, her husband Walter, her son Alfred, brothers, John, Alex, Philip, and Fred, sisters, Mona (Smuk), and Chris (Allen). A graveside memorial service will be held on May 14, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery.
