ANNE MEDOCK (nee KOWALCHUK) Anne passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Selkirk General Hospital after a battle with cancer. She refused to succumb for three years; and lived life lively, as she enjoyed her family and friends, until the Lord called her home. The eldest girl of seven children, Anne was born in Teulon on August 29, 1926, and raised on farms in close proximity. She attended schools in town where she completed her Grade 12. Besides being an energetic young lady in her family home, she was very skilled at needlework, knitting and sewing. She was a sewing instructor for 4H for some time; and was well known in the Interlake as the barehanded softball catcher. At the age of 18, Anne attended Normal School. After the minimal two months training needed, she became a teacher during the war. Her responsibilities were to educate rural children in Chatfield and Victoria Schools for one year each. Afterwards, she secured a position with the Department of Agriculture as a secretary in the Teulon office. This career lasted for six years during which time she met Michael whom she married. As they began to raise a family, they also started the Teulon Transfer. While being a mother for her four children, Anne ran the business at home for ten years. She did manage to squeeze in some pastimes such as softball, curling, CWL and even attempted piano lessons. In 1964, Mike ventured to Selkirk to start Selkirk Tire Sales and Service. A year later, the family followed. Once again, Anne continued to support Mike with her business skills. Her greatest pride was her children; and she was always a Rock at home. She was very actively involved as a Toastmistress. She spent many years happily serving Meals on Wheels Her most coveted accomplishment was the Selkirk Community Award, given to her in 1986, which exemplified her joy in always doing and giving to others. However, being a Grandmother was what she did best. Her face shone when her grandchildren were around and they will have numerous treasured memories about her. She was predeceased by her husband Michael Medock (2004) and an infant daughter (1960). Her surviving family members are, Maryann (Mel) Metzger, Valerie (Ted) Monk, Terry (Sharon) Medock, Mark (Sue) Medock and her grandchildren, Lorelei (Jeff) Wilkinson, James (Lauren) Brown, Melanie Brown, Jordan Monk, Tyson Monk, Michael Medock and Maggie Medock. Prayers will be held at the Gilbart Funeral Chapel on Monday, May 12 at 8:30 p.m. Cremation will follow. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 13 at 1:00 p.m. in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church in Selkirk. Anne's family would like to extend sincere appreciation to Dr. Fuchs and the hospital's palliative care nursing staff for their genuine compassion and dedication. Special thank-you to Cindi Fey, Liz and Don Scales, the Vopni family (especially Duncan), Mrs. Jablonski and Ray and Cindy Romanchuk. You gave the family peace of mind by providing loving support everyday. In lieu of flowers, Anne requested that any donations be given to Palliative Care at the Selkirk Hospital. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
