ANNE MARKO (nee STARIN) It is with feelings of great sadness and loss that our family announces the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, peacefully, at the Whitemouth Personal Care Home on May 9, 2008 at the age of 94 years. Anne is forever remembered by her devoted children: son Ronald (Sybil) of Edmonton and daughter Elaine of Selkirk; grandchildren, Kevin Alexander (Keri) and Timothy John; great-granddaughters, Brittany and Jaden from Kevin and Keri, and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her loving husband John Michael Marko on July 14, 2003, her wonderful sisters, Kay Nebozenko, Mary Andrews, Eva Strutwa, Victoria Myketuik, Daisy Wakshinsky and Rose Helwer, and brothers John, Joseph and Michael Starin. Mom was born on December 3, 1939 one of 10 children to William and Annie Starin of Libau. On November 11, 1939 she married Johnnie Marko and settled in Poplar Park just three miles away. The starlings, we were told, were responsible for their union. They raised their two children with much devotion, love and sacrifice, and opportunity given them. Over the years Mom enjoyed her daily tasks tending the dairy, growing and storing the bounty of an abundant garden, and displaying a lovely line of wash even in the winter days. Mom was very talented in the art of preserving, canning and pickling of her harvest and especially in her breads and homemade jams and jellies. Mom and Dad together moved to St. Adolphe Personal Care Home in February of 2003. Dad died on July 14, 2003 and Mom later continued to Whitemouth Personal Care Home in April, 2006, also a beautiful facility of loving and caring attendants. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 15 at the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk with Rev. Fr. Oris Naherniak officiating. A viewing will be held prior to service. Lunch will follow the service and for those who can attend burial will take place in the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery in Poplar Park, MB following the lunch. We welcome everyone to attend and share in this our celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Anne's memory to a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
