EARLE GARNETT It is with deep sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband and Dad, Earle Garnett, at the Victoria General Hospital on Sunday, May 11, 2008. Dad will be truly missed by his wife Iva, his children Ray, Lynne (Al), Dale, Lori (Raymond) and Barb (Chris); grandchildren Shannon, Marni, Curtis, Eric, Dana, Brittany, Nick, Jocelyn, Kara and Kris; great-grandchildren Kaylei, David and Julia. Earle was predeceased by his parents Fred and Mary Garnett, brothers Harold and Burke, sister Margaret and grandson Kelsey. Dad was born in Carman, Manitoba on July 16, 1918. Dad took over the family farm west of Carman, MB in 1946, the year he married Iva Nordquist, his cherished wife of 62 years. He and his twin brother Harold operated a successful grain, cattle, and mink business. Dad was a jack of all trades. Some of his endeavours included side businesses blowing snow, repairing furnaces, and other electrical and plumbing work. Described as a going concern those that knew Dad were aware of the vigour and intensity with which he worked and played. He was nicknamed Hurricane for the way he wielded his curling broom. He brought the same vigour to hockey, baseball and golf, playing defence for the Carman Beavers for 20 years. In ball he was back catcher playing fastball well into his 40's (and with no mask). Autumn brought duck hunting with friends. Dad provided us with a rich upbringing in a rural setting that we treasure. This included the experiences and traditions of the one room schoolhouse. He encouraged us to develop our interests in music, sports and the pursuit of a secondary education. Dad was an active member of his community. He was the Secretary-Treasurer for the Kilmory School District, a member of the Carman Kinsmen Club, the Carman Band, and involved with the construction of the new Golf Course. When Dad and Mom decided to retire in 1976, they sold the farm and designed and custom built their retirement home in Carman. For the next 30 years, they enjoyed their retirement between their homes in Carman and Mesa, Arizona. Retirement days were filled with golf, pool, cards and dancing. When asked about his retirement Dad would respond, Couldn't have been better. Dad we will miss you dearly, but you will live on in our hearts and memories forever. Burial will be private. Family and friends are invited to join us for a luncheon in a celebration of his life at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at the Carman United Church 134 1st St. S.W.
