GEORGE MURPHY 1916 - 2008 With his family at his side, George Murphy passed away at Stonewall Hospital on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, after a brief illness. He had celebrated his 92nd birthday four days prior on Friday, May 9. George is survived by his wife, Marge; his son Bill (Kathryn), and his grandsons, Shayne and Matt; his sister Marion; his sister-in-law Jean (Jack) Langtry; plus numerous nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his father William, mother Ellen; sisters and brothers, Elsie, Marguerite (Bud), Harry, Mabel, Helen, Kenneth, Alice, and Douglas; as well as nephew Jack (Butch) Stewart. Born in 1916 in the Grosse Isle area, George lived his whole life on the family farm, first farming with his father and then with his son and grandsons. Over the years, George never lost his love of farming. George also spent numerous years driving the school bus, beginning as a youth with a horse-drawn van, progressing to a car, and then finally to the school bus. George and Marge enjoyed travelling, vacationing to various places with family and friends. Family and friends were always very important to George and nothing pleased him more than having someone come to the farm for a visit.
