Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELGA MARTA ERICHSEN (nee KOLLN) It is with deep sorrow and sadness we announce the passing of Helga Marta Erichsen on Tuesday, May 13, 2008. Helga's memory is cherished by her loving husband of 56 years, Peter; sons Ralph (Pauline) and Wilfort (Joan); grandsons Scott, Brian (Marisa), Kris (Kristie), Ryan and Bryce; grandaughters Cheri (Dan), Cassie and Sami; great-grandson Caleb; great-grandaughters Kyra and Gabby. Helga is survived by her sister Erika Kolln in Germany, who still resides in the original family home. Helga was born June 3, 1929 in Neuendich, Germany; a small farming village by the Elbe River. She never failed to mention when reminiscing how wonderful and loving her parents were and how she had treasured the family life she had with her two brothers and sister when she was growing up in Germany. When she was 17 she met the love of her life, Peter Erichsen and when Peter immigrated to Canada her heart told her she had to follow. In 1952 Peter and Helga married and settled in Winnipeg. If ever there was a fairytale romance, this was it. They shared 56 wonderful years together, building a legacy of love and devotion to each other. Helga was of a unique mold; a kind and caring woman that never failed to touch the lives of all those that were lucky enough to know her. Known universally as Oma to her eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, she devoted herself to making their lives better. She loved them dearly and selflessly. Oma's greatest pleasures were participating in the lives of her grandchildren. Hockey games, graduations, birthdays, marriages, the list is endless. Family gatherings always centered around Oma's cooking. Many tears were shed when her life ended sooner than we hoped. If we can give back one tenth of the love and caring this woman gave during her life then we too can leave this world content in heart. Goodbye Oma, Mom, Helga we all love you dearly. Your legacy lives on in us. We will always remember you and the love you gave us all. Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 20, at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. A private interment will take place at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens.
