SABINA FRANK Sabina Frank, 94, of Winnipeg, died May 4, 2008 at the Simkin Center. Mrs. Frank was born Sabina Glatenberg in 1913 in Warsaw, Poland, in a close knit family of eight. In 1937 she married Heinz Frank, a law student from Berlin, and moved to Germany. Faced with mounting anti-semitism, Heinz, Sabina and his parents moved to Canada in 1938, first to the Jewish farm colony of Edenbridge, Sask., and then to a farm near Winnipeg. From the start of the Second World, Mrs. Frank lost all contact with her parents, siblings and large extended family in Poland. For the rest of her life she mourned her lost family. In 1948 the Franks moved to North Winnipeg, where Mrs. Frank relished her role as a devoted mother, amazing green thumb gardener, embroiderer, baker and adventurous chef for her family. In later years she devoted herself to the St. John's Guild and Meals on Wheels. She also often visited friends and relatives in hospitals and nursing homes, offering empathy and support. Predeceased by her husband in 1967, Mrs. Frank is survived by two daughters, Lili (Barry) Garfinkel of Minneapolis, and Helen (Simon) Bensimon of Potomac, MD; four grandchildren, Joanna Garfinkel of Vancouver, BC; Hindy (Jason) Gershman of Passaic, NJ; Naomi Garfinkel of Minneapolis and Avivit (Daniel) Atkin of Silver Spring, MD and four great-grandchildren. Graveside Services were held Monday, May 5, at B'nai Abraham Cemetery, Rabbi Lander officiating. Donations in memory of Sabina Frank may be made to the Simkin Center, Dove of Peace Unit, 1 Falconridge Drive, Winnipeg, MB.
