Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUTH VELMA FRANKLIN October 19, 1928 - May 10, 2008 The families of Ruth Velma Franklin sadly announce her passing on May 10, 2008. Ruth leaves to mourn, her three sons, Tom (Darlene), Jim (Jo-Anne), Rick (Tracey), along with her beloved grandchildren, Leanne, Bradley, Curtis, Justin, Matthew, and Mark. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Kenneth in 1979, and granddaughter Tracy in 1980. Ruth was born and raised in Brandon, Manitoba. Ruth was known for her love of baseball, and spent many hours out on the field, and although she was a fast runner, a young Ken Franklin came along, and caught her. Ken and Ruth were married in 1947. Their early years were spent in Brandon, before Manitoba Hydro would bring the family to Winnipeg. Once in Winnipeg Ruth worked at a variety of odd jobs, but her main focus was raising the boys, spending time at the family cottage, golfing and bowling. Ruth excelled at every sport, but truly had a passion for art. The family has many of Ruth's paintings proudly displayed in their homes. Ruth also spent many loving hours knitting for the grandchildren, who happily wore the gifts from grandma. Following Ken's death, Ruth moved to BC, enjoying the past 10 years, in beautiful Campbell River. Ruth will be remembered by all who knew her as a woman who demanded little of others, and had undying love for her family. A private family funeral is planned. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Canadian Diabetes.
