HNAT KALYNIUK With great sadness we announce the passing of Hnat (Harry) Kalyniuk on May 15, 2008 at the age of 89. Hnat was born in Sapaniwchyk, Wolyn, Ukraine on January 26, 1919. Here he attended school and from 1940-1945 served in various military capacities. During this period he was also a prisoner of war and as a result of his adeptness he was able to survive the war. His war years were served in Mongolia, Latvia, France, Belarus, Poland, and Germany. After discharge from the army he remembered Ukrainian prisoners of war in Italy by sending them Ukrainian flags. In 1946 he came to Canada as a contract worker on a farm and continued on to Winnipeg where he was employed at the Ukrainian Voice, New Pathway and Schwartz Machine Shop. He was married in 1949. From 1951 to 1981 he worked at Westeel until retirement. In the evenings he took a course in mechanical drafting. He was enlisted in the Canadian Army Reserves becoming a Mechanical Corporal. He was active in the Ukrainian community including the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the Ukrainian Canadian Veterans 141. Hnat was predeceased by his parents Mykola and Lucyna Kalyniuk and brothers Seman and Andrei all in Ukraine. Hnat is survived by daughter, Wilmarie (Rick), grandsons Philip and Michael; son, Don (Arlene), granddaughters Mandy and Lisa; son, Bill (April), granddaughters Cassandra and Emily; sister Anne of Sapaniwchyk, Wolyn, Ukraine along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Prayers will be said 6:30 p.m., Monday, May 19 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday May 20 also at the Chapel with Rev. Fr. A. Harkavyi officiating. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Arthritis Society of Canada. Vichnaya Pamyat KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193

I remember every moment then Hnat,I call him grandfather. When his visited us in Ukraine.Maybe you can help me. I’m looking contacts with ours family. When he died we lost contact.
