SOFIA (SOPHIE) WOJCIULAN On Wednesday, May 14, 2008 Sofia passed away peacefully at Health Sciences Centre. Sofia was born in Streszyn, Poland on May 3, 1927. She was predeceased by husband, Josef, parents Wojciech and Maria Liana. Sofia will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her daughter Helen. Sofia was taken from home at age 13 as a forced laborer, during the Second World War, to Brook Am Ziller, Austria. In 1948, with her husband, came to Canada to work on a farm in Theodore, Saskatchewan. She then moved to Winnipeg in 1950 and within a couple of years settled and farmed in Headingley area. Sofia worked at restaurants in Headingley (Nicks Inn, Husky and Highway Host) for many years. She enjoyed meeting and serving people. After retiring in 1985, Sofia looked forward to travel with friends and daughter. She also loved gardening, sharing and preparing fresh food from her own garden. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, with Monsignor Maurice Comeault officiating. Interment will be held in Headingley Holy Trinity Cemetery with a reception following in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Health Sciences Centre Foundation, MS1 - 820 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3J 3M7 or the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 0R3. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and aides of the Health Sciences Centre who provided for her care and comfort recently and throughout her life.
