Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGLORIA (GUTNIK) MITCHELL (nee SILVERMAN) On Saturday, May 10, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer, Gloria (Gutnik) Mitchell passed peacefully in her 86th year, her loving daughters Betsy and Tammy by her side. She is also survived by stepdaughter Sherril Brooks of Regina, Saskatchewan and stepson, Gary Mitchell, along with their children Lindsay (Calla-Dawn and their sons, Calder and Darby), Fraser (Bev), Shawn Brooks and Eric and Corey Mitchell. She will be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins, who she loved dearly and enjoyed spending time with. She was predeceased by husbands, Bernard Gutnik and Dave Mitchell, sisters, Florence Chochinov, Fanny Brotman, Toby Mitchell, her brothers, Percy, Hymie, Abe, Fred and Joe Silverman and stepson, Sherry Brooks. Born in 1922 in Lithuania to Alter and Ethel Silverman (Zilbermanis), she came with her family to Canada in 1927 and settled in the north end of Winnipeg. She married Bernard Gutnik in 1945 and worked side by side with him at their drug stores. They raised their two daughters in Winnipeg surrounded by a warm extended family. After his passing, she continued to work as a pharmacy technician for her loving niece and nephew, Ethel and Earl Chochinov. In 1979, she married Dave Mitchell and moved to Regina where she lived for 26 years, embraced by their loving family and many new friends. She returned to Winnipeg three years ago and reconnected with her many nieces, nephews and cousins and enjoyed her many friends at the Temple Shalom. She lived a life of inspiration to all she touched. Known for her generosity and strength of spirit, she taught her daughters to embrace a challenge with love in their hearts. She was laid to rest next to her husband Bernard in Winnipeg on Monday, May 12. She would have been proud to say I did it my way .
