MABEL (ARTHUR-MITCHELL) COOPER October 2,1909 - May 16, 2008 Mabel passed away at Misericordia Place, Winnipeg. She is survived by her daughters, Janet Mitchell Leslie (Doug Caldwell) of Toronto and Margaret Mitchell Brown (Gary) of Winnipeg. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Todd Brown (Kellie) and Jill Brown Magnacca (Scott) of New Jersey and her great-grandchildren, Allie and Griffin Brown, Sean and Adam Magnacca. Mabel was one of seven children and has a surviving sister, Georgina Heenan of Mississauga, Ontario, also a sister-in-law, Inez Arthur of Kelowna, BC along with many nieces and nephews. Mabel was born and raised in Port Arthur, Ontario. She moved to Winnipeg in 1929 to train at the Winnipeg General Hospital, graduating in Nursing Class A in 1932. She married Jack Mitchell in September l932 and they resided on Kingston Crescent until Jack's death in June 1966. At that time, Mabel took a refresher course to update her nursing skills and worked for a short period at the then Winnipeg Municipal Hospitals. In 1971 Mabel reacquainted with a long time school friend, Max Cooper of Port Arthur. They married and later relocated to New Westminster, BC, living there until Max's death in 1989. Mabel then returned to Winnipeg to be closer to her family. We would like to extend our very sincere gratitude to all the wonderful caring staff at Misericordia Place, for making Mabel's stay on Apple Tree Lane, 2nd floor so comfortable, serene and secure in such a community oriented spirit. Mabel will be remembered as a kind and gentle lady eager to show her compassion to others. Many fond memories will remain with those she touched. A private family service was her wish.
