ERNEST (ERNIE) STARKEWSKI November 24, 1934 - May 15, 2008 Peacefully with his family at his side, Ernie passed away after a short battle with cancer. Ernie is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Caroline (Wionzek). His daughters, Kim Starkewski (Grant Tymchuk), Connie Spak (Ron) and son Paul Klostermeier-Starkewski (Evi) will also lovingly remember him. Ernie was also the proud grandfather of Jacqueline, Kristen, Amanda, Sebastian, Darwin and Columbia who will miss him deeply. He is also survived by his sister Margie (Richard) and brother Albert (Ida), and sister-in-law Florence. He will be deeply missed by many relatives and friends. Dearly missing Ernie will be his cat, Mr. B. Ernie was predeceased by his parents Nellie (Andrechuk) and William Starkewski, along with his brothers, Steve, John, Peter and sister Mary. Ernie was born in Dauphin, Manitoba. At the age of 16 he moved to Winnipeg where in a few years he would meet Caroline. On June 29, 1957 Ernie and Carol were married. After 42 years of service, Ernie retired from Canada Packers. During his life Ernie took great pride in helping family with renovations and home repairs, working on his cars and those of others. During the past 22 years Ernie truly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren camping, watching them play sports and going to school plays or musicals. Ernie and Carol loved to travel and visited such destinations as Hong Kong, Japan, Zambia, Alaska, England, Branson and Italy. The family would like to thank the staff on N3E at Concordia Hospital along with Dr. Loepp in making Dad's last few days comfortable. Pallbearers will be George and Nestor Starkewski, Gary Danylyshen, Curtis Boughton, David Yaskowich and David Wesst. Prayers will be held on Monday, May 19 at 8:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Church service will be held at St. Joseph The Worker, 505 Brewster Street at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20. Internment to follow at Glen Eden Funeral Home. Father Jan Spyrka will be presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lung Association of Manitoba, 629 McDermott Avenue, R3A 1P6 or D'Arcys Animal Rescue Center, 1793 Portage Avenue, R3J 0E8.
