OSTAP (OSCAR) MALANCZUK February 19, 1921 May 17, 2008 Peacefully on Saturday, May 17, 2008, Ostap Malanczuk passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Unit. Ostap was born in the village of Litatyn (Ternopol), Ukraine and immigrated to Canada in 1949. He settled in Winnipeg and worked for a brief time on the Canadian Pacific Railway and then, as a cook at the Deer Lodge Hospital for 25 years at which time he retired in 1986. Ostap met Anna in 1954. They were married on June 11, 1955. Ostap leaves to mourn his wife, Anna of 53 years, his son, Robert and his daughter, Joanne (Berezowski), Kenneth (son-in-law), his special granddaughter, Keanna, his brother, Paul and family in the Ukraine and numerous nephews and nieces. Dad loved his family, work and home. He enjoyed going to the shopping centre, having coffee with his friends, reminiscing about the old times and keeping up with current events. He loved to do gardening especially his huge tomatoes and taking care of his apple trees. Up until last year, he was still involved with the planting of our annual flowers and would point with his cane where he wanted them to be planted. Even though Dad was a quiet individual, he enjoyed many Christmas and New Year's dinners with music, lots of food and dancing to polkas in the rec room. During the last five years, he suffered from renal failure and was a patient at the Seven Oaks Dialysis unit up until a week prior to his passing. As much as he hated to be on dialysis, he was bound and determined to survive. We would like to thank the staff at the Seven Oaks Dialysis Unit, his Home Care Workers - Ken, Angel, Mike, Jose and Francine and the staff at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Unit. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m. Wednesday (tonight), May 21 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 22 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Ave. with Fr. I. Dziadyk, OSBM officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to be made to either St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or the Kidney Foundation of Canada Manitoba Branch.
