D. JOAN OWEN October 1, 1930 - May 18, 2008 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of, our beloved mother, grandmother and friend, who left us wrapped in the arms of the Lord. Mom was predeceased by her husband Ernie, mother and father, Mona and Roy Pridgeon, her infant sister Shirley, aunts, uncles and friends. Joan leaves behind her son Roy (Rhonda) Owen, daughter Terri (Cam) Tauffenbach and grandchildren Taylor, Trace, Riley and Autumn. Mom attended Hugh John McDonald high school where she met and married Dad and went on to work at the Manitoba Telephone System. In between having her children they began working on the cottage at Pointe du Bois. Mom went back to work at the University of Manitoba Bookstore, working at the Fort Garry Campus as Textbook Supervisor and retired from managing the Bannatyne Campus in 1989. Mom and dad enjoyed many fun filled summers at the cottage, sharing it with their many friends playing horseshoes and cards into the wee hours. Mom loved to dance and her and dad would dance many nights away at the St. Boniface Golf Club. Mom's treasures were her grandchildren, attending soccer, basketball games and Xmas concerts were all very important to her. She loved spoiling her grandchildren and could be counted on to have scotch mints or werthers in her possession at all times. Independent almost to the end, mom loved to luncheon with her friends, going to the Greenhouses in spring and always had a book on the go. A memorial service will take place on Friday, May 23 at 2:00 p.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. A reception will follow the service. Many thanks to the staff at St. Boniface Hospital and to the fantastic staff at Riverview Health Center, for the care and support to our family who made mom's last days as comfortable as possible. To Mom's good friends, Bonnie, Truus and Dode, whose support and dedication is greatly appreciated and words will never be enough to express our thanks. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Riverview Health Centre, CancerCare or a charity of one's choice. THOMSON IN THE PARK 925-1120 Send expressions of sympathy to www.mem.com
