DONALD MCEWEN Donald McEwen, a longtime resident of Red Lake, passed away May 12, 2008, at the age of 72. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 46 years, Mary Jean (Bell), brothers Jack (Georgina), Bill (Judy), Murray (Barbara), Hugh (Audrey), many nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Merle (Jim Bell, deceased), and his little friend Roxie. Don was predeceased by his parents, Hugh and Edna McEwen. Don was born in Dauphin, Manitoba and spent his early years in Pickle Crow, Ontario. The family moved to Red Lake in 1938 where his father was employed by the Hasaga Gold Mines. Don worked for many years in the electrical department at the Campbell Mine in Balmertown. He enjoyed curling, fishing, playing pool and socializing with his lifelong friends. Upon retirement he and Mary Jean spent 11 winters in sunny Arizona. The courage, strength and determination that Don showed throughout his life was always an inspiration to the family that he loved and cared so much about. Friends gathered with Don's family at the Red Lake Chapel on Thursday, May 15, 2008 to celebrate his life. A private family interment was held at the Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made through the Stevens Funeral Homes Red Lake Chapel , Box 237, Red Lake, ON P0V 2M0.
