RICHARD WILSON SMITH Richard Wilson Smith at the age of 90, passed away March 3, 2008 in Vero Beach, Florida. He was born July 9, 1917 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Captain Wilson and Minnie Smith. Dick graduated from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1939. He served in the Second World War in the artillery of the Canadian Army attaining the rank of Captain. He was employed throughout his life with the family business, The Smith Agency Limited. Contributions to his local community were highlighted by his many years of service with the Canadian Institute for the Blind, serving as Provincial and National President. Dick was a lifelong member of Westminster United Church and served the congregation in many capacities over the years. He was very proud of his association as a member of the Winnipeg Rotary Club, where he served as President and attained a remarkable 50 years of perfect attendance . He was honored with the Canadian Volunteer Award bestowed in Ottawa by the Governor General of Canada. Dick was a longtime member of St. Charles Country Club and loved the game of golf throughout his life. A special place for Dick and his family was his lake home in Bemidji, Minnesota where he spent many enjoyable summers. He is survived by his wife, Corinne: son, Richard Jr. (Lillian) of Winnipeg, and son, Tom, (Peggy) of Lakeville, Minnesota; grandchildren; Christine Goodfellow (Travis), Sarah Smith-Larkin (Patrick), Andrew Smith, Jennifer Smith and Suzanne Smith; great-grandsons, Hunter Goodfellow and Thomas Larkin. He was predeceased by his first wife, Helen. Memorials may be made to CNIB - Manitoba Division or Westminster United Church Foundation. A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2008 at Westminster United Church, Maryland Street at Westminster Avenue. Private interment for immediate family to follow.
