MARGUERITE MAXWELL (HUGHES) Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, Marguerite Maxwell passed away at her home surrounded by family on May 21, 2008. She was 88 years old. Remaining to cherish her memory is her husband of 61 years, Bruce Maxwell. She was a wonderful mother to Susan, Dennis (Dawn), and Kim (Allan Rimmer). She was known as Granny to her grandchildren Karen Kemplay of Redwater, Alberta, Kelly (Chris Anderson) of Dugald, Manitoba, Megan Rimmer and Lee (Charla) Rimmer of Winnipeg. She was Great Gramma Marguerite to Samuel and Jakob Kemplay and Calem and Kieran Anderson. Marguerite was predeceased by her mother and father, Elsie and Henry Hughes and her three sisters, Eva, Elsie and Ethel and one brother, Charles Hughes. Marguerite was born on May 16, 1920 in Wales. She immigrated to Canada, with her parents, as an infant and grew up in Ontario. In 1941, Marguerite was one of the first women to join the Canadian Women's Army Corp. (CWAC) and serve overseas during the Second World War. She reached the rank of corporal and serviced as a switchboard operator in England and Italy. While serving in Italy, she met the love of her life', Bruce. Marg and Bruce were married in Winnipeg on November 16, 1946 and raised their family in Saskatoon and Winnipeg. As their family grew, they spent many happy hours traveling, camping, berry picking and fishing together, making many happy memories for everyone. Upon retirement, Marg and Bruce traveled throughout Canada and the United States. Marg had a way of sharing all the things that brought her the most enjoyment. She knew all the names of the wild flowers and loved to watch the birds. She loved her garden and was a marvelous cook (self-taught) and loved to sew, as well. The family wish to thank the Palliative Care Nurses for their help, care and compassion during this difficult time, especially Louise, who Mom was especially fond of. Keeping with Marguerite's wishes, there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marguerite's memory to the Salvation Army or a Charity of your choice.
