ARLENE MAY LOVIE (nee MATTHEWS) It is with great sadness that the family wishes to announce the peaceful passing of our wife and mother after a brave battle with lung cancer, on May 17, 2008 at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 73 years. Arlene was predeceased by her parents, Gordon and Margaret Jessamine Matthews (nee Prentice), and six brothers and two sisters. She was also predeceased by one nephew and two nieces. Arlene is survived by her loving husband of fifty years, Lloyd and three sons Ray, Glen (Dawn) and Dennis (Nancy). She is also survived by one brother, Ken (Kathy) Matthews and sisters-in-law Joyce, Ruth and Pat, all of British Columbia. She is also survived by many nephews, nieces, other family members and friends. Arlene spent her childhood at Ebor, MB (in the Virden area) and moved with her parents to Winnipeg in about 1946. Arlene worked in Winnipeg as a secretary in her single days and was able to travel extensively. After marriage and family arrived, she stayed home to be a mother to her sons. Her family was very important to Arlene and she did a wonderful job of being a wife, Mother and homemaker. Arlene in her own quiet way was the central figure for her husband, sons and daughters-in-law. In later years Arlene had deteriorating health, as did Lloyd, and she and Lloyd were very restricted in their ability to travel and see the world. Arlene remarked many times during her illness about the many, many, kind people wishing her well and she was very grateful to them all. The family wishes to extend sincerest thanks and gratitude to the nurses and staff at Riverview Health Centre for their care and compassion. It was Arlene's wish to be cremated. Private interment will follow the memorial service. A celebration of Arlene's life will be held on Friday, May 30, at 2:00 pm at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (One block south of the Royal Canadian Mint) A gathering of family and friends will follow in the reception area. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Arlene's memory may be made to Riverview Health Centre, Cancer Care Manitoba, or a charity of one's choice. We love you and will miss you rest in peace Arlene. Glen Lawn Funeral Home 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. 982-7550
