Mom was born in Virden MB on May 11,1922 and embarked on her teaching career after graduating from Normal School in Winnipeg. She taught at one-room schools in rural Manitoba and it was during her tenure at Roseland that Mom met her future husband Norman. Mom continued her teaching career while raising her children retiring from Brooklands Cressy School in 1978 after a highly successful and rewarding career. Mom spent many hours knitting mitts and scarves ensuring her less fortunate students were properly attired for the Manitoba winters. Mom was an avid sports fan and among her favorites were the Winnipeg Jets, Blue Bombers and the Toronto Blue Jays. She was a long time member of both the Thistle Ladies and the Thistle Business Girls Curling clubs. Mom curled into her late 70s until a bad hip forced her retirement from the game. She continued to enjoy all sports through the media. In 1968 Mom and Dad purchased a cottage and until recently Mom spent many enjoyable summers at the lake surrounded by family. She especially enjoyed the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She looked forward to all family gatherings but was often forced to celebrate Mothers Day and her birthday together. Mom and Dad enjoyed numerous trips throughout many of the American States in their retirement years and after Dads passing Mom enjoyed many bus tours and trips with her cronies. Mom was most noted for her calm demeanor, kindness and non-judgmental attitude and was well liked and respected by all who knew her. One friend remarked she wanted to be just like Lorna when she grew up. We would like to thank all of the staff at Fred Douglas Lodge (Oak Unit) for the wonderful care and attention Mom received. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Moms memory may be made to the Fred Douglas Society, 1275 Burrows Ave. Winnipeg MB, R2X 0B8 In accordance with Moms wish cremation will take place.
