EDWARD BURTON LANE March 17, 1924 - May 23, 2008. Edward Lane, 84 years, resident of Deer Lodge Centre, and dearly beloved husband of Hazel, died peacefully at the Grace Hospital, Friday, May 23, 2008. Born March 17, 1924, Ed was a lifelong resident of Winnipeg. His life was his family; his passion was his music. He was the drummer of the Ed Lane Trio but was also known to share his talents with many other Winnipeg musicians. Ed was especially proud when his son Gord was playing along side him. A survivor of the 1953 polio epidemic, Ed had faced a multitude of challenges throughout his life with dignity and humour. He was an RCAF veteran of the Second World War and retired from the T Eaton Company after 37 years of dedicated service. He particularly enjoyed the many family camping trips during which time he enthusiastically led his family in song. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Hazel of almost 61 years; sister Donalda (Dennis) Bell; daughters, Marilyn (Wayne) Barraclough, Louise (Nick) Haar, Debbi (Ray) Mantai; son Gord (Pat) Lane; grandchildren, Stephen (Tess) Haar, Peter (Cara) Haar, Kimberley (Anthony) Perkins, Bryan Evans, Dan Evans, Jarad Jobb; great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Arianna, Kohen and Tyla Haar, Dallas Coleman-Evans, several nieces and nephews, extended family members, and countless dear friends.. Ed was predeceased by his parents Burt and Mabel Lane, and sisters Mabel Price and Pat Evans Ed's family would like to thank the compassionate and caring staff of T6, Deer Lodge Centre where he was a resident for the past four years, Grace Hospital ER staff and Winnipeg EMS. Memorial Service to be held in the chapel at Deer Lodge Centre, 2109 Portage Ave. at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2008 with Rev. Pat Ferris officiating.
