IRENE ANITA GRAHAM (nee CARTER) It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of Irene Graham, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at the age of 93 years. Irene was born in 1915 in Winnipeg, but was very proud of her Icelandic heritage and often referred to herself as a ghoulie . She grew up in the West End and graduated from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. She met her husband, Ed at the Winnipeg Roller Rink in 1936 and they married in 1939, enjoying 59 years together. They had numerous summer and winter homes and lovingly shared them with all of their family and friends. Her family was very important to Irene and she did a wonderful job of being a wife, mother and homemaker. Irene loved to socialize and one of her favourite pastimes was gambling ... she was very lucky at Bingo and slot machines. She also enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adeline and CNIB choirs and she had a beautiful voice. Irene was always very active and loved to participate and help in any way at the Golden West Centennial Lodge, her home for the past two years. Remaining to cherish Irene's memory are her children Jim (Bev Majury), Linda Phillips (Harvey) and Pat Danino; daughter-in-law Joyce Graham; grandchildren Vicki McKinlay (Ian), Shawn Graham, Andrew and Michael (Erin) Phillips, Jenni and Kayla Danino; great-grandchild Blaise McKinlay and her nephews, cousins and many friends. Irene was predeceased by her twin brothers Douglas and Lloyd (in infancy); step-siblings Jim and Alice Carter; husband Ed, granddaughter Angela, great-grandson Noah, and recently her son Laurie. A celebration of Irene's life will be held on Thursday, May 29 at 2:00 p.m. at the Golden West Centennial Lodge, Ness Avenue and School Road. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and thanks to the staff of the Golden West Centennial Lodge. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made in Irene's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the CNIB. We all love and miss you!
