Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySAMUEL BABISKY It is with great sorrow that the family of Sam Babisky announces his passing at the Selkirk General Hospital on May 27, 2008. He leaves to mourn, his wife Grace, son Sam Jr. (Janice) of Sarnia, daughter Heather McAllister of Saskatoon, special granddaughter Kari Jean Anderson (Colin) of Winnipeg, sister Katie Gural of Winnipeg, sister-in-law Pat Pruden (Norm) of Selkirk, brother-in-law Alvin Thomas (Debbie) of Lac du Bonnet, four grandchildren Jacqui, Joey, and Robbie of Sarnia and Jamie of Saskatoon, seven greatgrandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Sam was predeceased by brothers Fred, Bill, Mike, Peter, Alex and Ross and sisters Mary Schmidt and Ann Stevenson. Sam was born in East Lower Fort Garry on February 20, 1927 and spent most of his life in Selkirk. He served his country in the Second World War and during the last months of 1944 he earned a Commendation from the Chief of Staff as a volunteer to further the war effort in gas warfare. He was later employed at Abex Industries for 35 years, retiring in 1989, and had made many lifelong friends there. Sam enjoyed his family, fishing with his friends, his rum, but mostly his music. He was proud to have played with many of the local area's finest musicians and cherished those moments in band with them. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Friday May 30 at 2:30 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk with Legion Padre Stephen Sharman officiating. Private interment will follow at the Little Britain United Churchyard. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
