FREDA HOSKINS May 17, 1923 - May 27, 2008 It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our dear mother. She was predeceased by her husband Frederick Lloyd on November 7, 1992 and her parents and siblings. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews of the Jones family remaining in England. Freda leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Carol (Leanne) of Winnipeg, her son James (wife Louise) of McCreary and son Daryl (wife Joy) of Winnipeg. Known as Nanny she is survived by three grandchildren, Gered (wife Amber) of Calgary; Alex and Katie of Winnipeg; and great-grandson Connor of Calgary. Mom was born and raised in South Elmsall, near Ponterfract, Yorkshire England. She joined the Women's Auxiliary Air Force during the Second World War and worked as an associate to an Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist. Freda met her husband Lloyd (Canadian Air Force) during this time and they were married in 1944. They moved back to Canada where they started their family. In the Air Force, they travelled to many new homes and finally settled in Winnipeg in 1965. Freda was well known to all the staff and customers in the Simpson's Sears dining room in Polo Park and later at the Bay dining room at Unicity. When she retired, she spent many happy winter months in Florida. In September, 1996 she suffered a severe stroke and was hospitalized for many months. During this time, she became confined to a wheelchair and eventually settled into B1 at the Middlechurch Home. Freda always kept busy, she logged over 2000 volunteer hours working on various projects. She served on Resident's Council and was well known for her cheese and ticket sales. Always with a smile on her face and a cheery hello. She was a wonderful singer, loved a good joke and her cheery laughter was contagious. Freda was well loved by many residents, resident's families, and the staff of Middlechurch Home. She will be missed! A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, with reception to follow. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
