Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARIE POLKA (PALKA) Marie passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 with her family at her side at the Grace General Hospital. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Karen Tayfel (Duane), granddaughter Kathleen, sister Rose Polka and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Fred and Katherine Palka, brother Mike and sisters Anne Mandryk (Jack) and Polly Petrachek (Oster). The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Extendicare Tuxedo Villa and the emergency staff at Grace Hospital. Mom was born on January 1, 1918 at Progress, Manitoba, a small farming community. After high school she moved to Toronto and was employed in the sales accounting department at Maclean Hunter. In 1976, mom returned with her daughter Karen to live in Winnipeg and was employed at Trident Press until her retirement. Mom was actively involved in all levels of politics always supporting her Liberal candidates. She developed a passion for horse racing in Toronto which continued throughout her life. Mom was a kind and loving woman who enjoyed kibitzing with others and displaying her witty sense of humour. Throughout her life, mom always looked forward to her visits with friends and family. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her loving granddaughter, Kathleen, whom she cherished. Mom, we miss you and love you. Prayers will be held Friday, May 30, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home. Marie will be laid to rest in Green Acres Cemetery and a gathering for family and friends will follow. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200-6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8.
