Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN (CARYK) DIDUCK 1914 - 2008 Jean (Caryk) Diduck passed away peacefully at the Maples Personal Care Home on May 27, 2008 at the age of 93. She is survived by her one son Gordon, granddaughter Paula (Tom) Glass, grandsons, Jim, (Esther) and Dan (Karen) Diduck. Her younger brother Joe Spot Caryk, great-grandchildren Andrew, Colin, Austin and Mackenzie, several cousins, nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by her parents Dymtro and Maria, her infant brother William, and older brother Joachim (Jack), her precious daughter-in-law Barbara (Annette) and her beloved husband Joseph. Jean was born in Winnipeg on July 1, 1914, receiving her education at several north Winnipeg Schools, including Margaret Scott and Isaac Newton High School. She was extremely active in the Ukrainian Canadian Community participating in all cultural activities at the Ukrainian Labour Temple at Pritchard and McGregor. Jean took up the mandolin, which she loved. In her younger days, Jean's musical talents enabled her to travel and play with various groups and orchestras on CBC radio programs. Jean continued to play well into her 70s until her arthritis made it difficult to fret properly, and being a perfectionist, she wouldn't settle for less. After her husband's sudden passing in 1960, she filled the void by working for the Victorian Order of Nurses, as a home care worker. Jean's compassion and caring persona helped ease many of her clients through their pain and suffering. Jean continued her work well into her seventies, a remarkable accomplishment considering she never drove a car and relied on public transportation to attend to her clients, never letting them down. Jean (Baba) will always be remembered by her grandchildren as a loving, caring, determined woman. Her lifelong dedication to them, her generosity, her passion for cooking and gardening, will forever be with them. She played an important role in all their lives and helped shaped the wonderful people they are today. Complying with her wishes, cremation will take place and her remains will be interred alongside her late husband. A private family celebration of her life will held on May 31, 2008. A special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Maples Personal Care Home, and The Seven Oaks Hospital for all their care during her life. Flowers are graciously declined, those wishing to remember her are asked to make a donation to the charity of their choice.
