Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERTRUDE (GERT) CECILE GIBSON It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of our beloved Aunt Gertrude (Gert) Cecile Gibson on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at the Providence Place Personal Care Home in Moose Jaw, SK at the age of 98 years. Remaining to forever cherish Gert's memory are her nephew Stan (Cathy) Kelly of Winnipeg; nieces Diana (Douglas) Budzinski of Moose Jaw, Georgia (Wayne) Abbott of Vancouver and her nephew Theodore (Ollie) Kelly of Nanaimo. She is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Irene Kelly; husband Orland Gibson; her brothers Theodore and Al Kelly; and her niece, Elaine Connelly. Aunt Gert was born in Winnipeg on December 12, 1909. She attended Daniel Macintyre Collegiate and went on to further her education at Secretarial College. Gert worked for Searle Grain Company and then went on to work for 25 years at the Canadian Grain Commission as a private secretary. Gert married Orland Gibson at St. Edward's Roman Catholic Church in 1942. They both enjoyed exploring the many marshes and lakes in and around Manitoba, while Orland photographed and painted the various species of birds and plants. Gert also worked side by side with Orland at the Cave , a popular nightclub in Winnipeg where they photographed many of the patrons who frequented the club. Together they spent many years at the cottage at Twin Beaches on Lake Manitoba. After Orland's passing in 1968, Gert travelled extensively to places such as China, Africa, Russia, Cuba, Japan, and all over Europe. In later years, she lived with her brother Al, whom she called her best friend . Following Al's passing, when Gert could no longer live unassisted, she went to live with her niece Diana and Douglas in Moose Jaw. More recently she lived at Providence Place in Moose Jaw where she received excellent care. A private family graveside service will be held in Brookside Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved Orland. Until we meet again, Gertie has passed peacefully through this world and into the hands of our loving God.
