DOROTHY ETHEL WATLING (nee HARTLEY) It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and aunt on Thursday, May 29, 2008 at the age of 88 years. She was predeceased by her husband Jack Watling, her parents, Herman and Ethel, and sisters Velma and Shirley. She is lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her son John and his wife Lynn; grandsons, Greg, Mark and Scott; granddaughter Jill; stepson Jim (Beth); stepdaughter Jacky; sister Audie; brother-in-law Allan; nephew Jeff; nieces, Junanne, Lori and Sandra, as well as many extended family and friends. Dolly was born at home in Winnipeg on December 22, 1919 and lived in Weston until early adulthood. She worked at Breene's Motors as a receptionist / secretary until she married Jack in 1952. Dolly worked alongside Jack on their property at Hillside Beach. It was one of the first farms in the area and they raised Black Angus cattle and poultry. Then together they started up the Oakridge Fur Farm, first with foxes, then eventually ranching mink until 1977. During this time while her son was growing up, Dolly drove the school bus. She was also a census taker, enumerator, and councilor for Ward 1 of RM of Alexander for many years. Her son helped them run a riding stable and cleared land for the Oak Ridge Subdivision on Lakeshore Drive where Dolly sold lots from the 1970s through the 1990s. There was many a phone call, Your horses are on the highway, or Your bull is out again, and off Dolly would go to shoo them back home in the middle of the night, while still getting up early to look after her family and the ranch. There wasn't anything she couldn't do if she put her mind to it. Dolly actively participated in the Ladies Auxiliary, the Victoria Beach Merrymakers Club and was a founding member of the Victoria Beach Seniors Scene. She loved to bake and spend time with her family and friends. Nothing could surpass her love for her family. She will always be remembered as a generous and loving parent and grandparent. Although we had to say goodbye she will remain in our hearts forever. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Pine Falls Hospital Staff and to the home care workers who allowed her to stay at home as long as possible. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 3 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michaels Church, 120 Eighth Ave. at Pine St., Victoria Beach. Rev. Judith Whitmore will be officiating. Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life with us. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CNIB in Dolly's name. YES SIR, YOU'RE MY BABY. NO SIR, I DON'T MEAN MAYBE. YES SIR, YOU'RE MY BABY DOLL! Sharon, Lois and Bram Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, is in charge of arrangements.
