JOYCE ELEANOR NEVAKSHONOFF It is with deep sadness that the family of Joyce Nevakshonoff (nee Barrett), announces her death in the early evening of May 28 at her home after a brief struggle with cancer. Left to mourn her passing are her three loving children, Paul (Louise) and their sons, Mikeal and Alexander, Tom (Rozanne), Tom's step-children with Rozanne, Jade and Caitlin, and Jade's baby daughter Emma, and Cathy (Luke); her brother Cubby (Rosie); her sister Bernice; her sister-in-law Elizabeth; nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members. She was predeceased by her dear husband, Mike, in 1998, her parents Percy and Ida, and her sister, Gladys, just a short time ago. Mum was born in Winnipeg on the 16th of October in 1926. She was raised in her home town of Fisher Branch, MB where she resided for most of her life. She met our father when he came to town to build the Federal Grain Elevator and they were married in 1950. For a while they lived in Winnipeg, where dad worked in construction. They then bought the Coronation Hotel in Poplarfield which they operated from 1959 to 1971. Following this they lived briefly in Norway House where they opened up and operated the Playgreen Inn for mum's brother, Cubby. In 1974, we built our home in Fisher Branch where mum remained until her passing. For many years mum worked at the Fisher Branch Collegiate Institute as a librarian and then secretary. She was a staunch member of the Anglican Church as well as the Fisher Branch Women's Institute. Mum was an avid reader and devoted a lot of time researching the history of our family. She was extremely gifted with her hands. She spent countless hours doing needlepoint, knitting, quilting, and various other crafts. She and dad also enjoyed curling, very much, in their senior years. Our mother was a woman of great strength who never for a moment hesitated to speak her mind. Her conduct was an example to us all. She faced her coming death with calmness and resolution, her one regret being that she would not live to see her grandsons grow to manhood. Memories of the summer we all spent together up at Aberdeen Lodge will be forever cherished in our hearts. We are very grateful for the compassionate care mum received at the Percy E. Moore hospital and for homecare, and palliative care staff. A very special thank you to Auntie Bernice who was with mum every day through these trying times. Honourary pallbearers are the members of the F.B.W.I. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba. Memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic church in Fisher Branch. Reverend Godfrey Mawejje officiating. Interment to follow at the Fisherton Community Cemetery. The Knitter's Prayer I pray when risen from the dead, I may in glory stand Perhaps a crown upon my head, But four needles in my hand. I never learned to sing or play, So let no harp be mine, From childhood to my dying day Plain knitting's been my line. An so, accustomed to the end, In plying useful stitches, I'll be content, if given to knit, The little angel's britches. FISHER FUNERAL HOME In care of arrangements.
