DEREK STANLEY FOYLE It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Derek Stanley Foyle. Derek was born in Steeple Langford near Salisbury in Wiltshire England on October 20, 1925. He grew up and went to elementary school in Steeple Langford, and after passing the 11+ attended Bishop Wordsworth's grammar school in Salisbury. During the Second World War Derek served in the R.A.F. and spent time in Malaya and Burma from 1944 to 1947. After the war he returned to Wiltshire and married his childhood sweetheart, Evelyn Poppy Hawkins on January 29, 1949. They settled in the Steeple Langford area where their four children were born. In 1962 Derek and Poppy immigrated to Winnipeg where Derek started his own home decorating business. Derek served as president of the R.A. Steen Community Club formerly the Laura Secord Community Club. He was also recognized by then Mayor Steven Juba for his participation on the Midland Community committee in 1976. Derek is survived by; his loving wife Evelyn Poppy , children; Annice (Mike), Linda (Ralph), Nigel (Teresa) and Neil (Linda); grandchildren Rachel (Wayne), Serena (Craig), Melanie (Steven), Kelly, Jenna, Bryce (Marli), Scott, Bryan (Julia), Thomas and Jonathon and eight great-grandchildren. He also leaves his brother-in-law Michael Bentley and family in BC and brother Raymond and relatives in England. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at the Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., with reception to follow. Flowers gratefully declined.
