DOUGLAS FRANCIS MCELGUNN On Friday, May 30, 2008, Douglas Francis McElgunn passed away suddenly at his home. Remaining to forever cherish Doug's memory are his second wife Barbara; children, Kevin, Rennie and Darren; mother Florence; stepchildren, Brandy and Sean Afoon (Colleen, Alex, Matthew, Keely). Doug was born in Winnipeg, at the Misericordia Health Centre on February 10, 1933. He was raised by his grandparents in Ireland until he turned 18 and was reunited with his mother back in Canada. In his early twenties, he met his first wife Lynn and used his love of electronics to secure himself employment at the Misericordia Health Centre where he held many roles over the years and stayed until his retirement. He had numerous lifelong friends whom he loved to visit and joke with. Some viewed him as an Icon, his smile, his laugh, his determination. He was often thought of as quiet and gentle, but his presence was large and great. Go placidly amid the noise and haste and remember what peace there may be in silence. On Friday, June 6, Doug's funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel in the Misericordia Health Centre, 2nd floor, 99 Cornish Avenue with Rev. Fr. Vince Herner, presider.
