Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPAUL LEON REGIS CANCADE Paul Leon Regis Cancade passed away on Monday, May 19, 2008 at the age of 73 years after a brief but brave struggle with lung cancer. Although he passed away at the Assiniboine Centre Palliative Care Unit, his family were privileged to be able to care for him at home until the day before his death. Paul was born in Brandon, Manitoba on May 30, 1934 and lived in Belleview, Manitoba until the age of 11 years when his family moved to Brandon. Paul attended Belleview School and later St. Augustine's Catholic School in Brandon. He then attended Notre Dame College in Wilcox, Saskatchewan from 1949 to 1954 where his relationship with Pere Athol Murray made a great and lasting impact on his life. His loyalty to the College and the friends he made there were lifelong. Upon his return to Brandon, he met his future wife, Yvette Gauthier from Antler, Saskatchewan, whom he later married in 1955. They quickly created a family of five daughters. Paul went straight into the family business, Cancade Brothers, which relocated from Belleview to Brandon in 1946. Later the business was renamed Cancade Company Limited which continues to manufacture truck bodies and accessories to this day. Although Paul had not been actively involved in the business for the last few years, he continued to remain very interested in its daily functioning. Paul was an active member of St. Augustine's Church in Brandon, an involved member of Kinsmen and K-40 Clubs and sat on the board of the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Paul and Yvette travelled extensively and enjoyed their winter home in Weslaco, Texas and their cottage at Clear Lake. The legacy he leaves his family is a love for country roads and open skies, family dinners and Sunday brunch, wine making, whisker rubs, generosity, love and a firm connection to God. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Yvette and his five daughters and their families; Shawna and Barry Penonzek, Susan and Daniel; Cathy and Ralph Redfern, Sarah (Kevin), David, Elizabeth and Julia; Leanne and Ed MacKay, Bonnie and Paul; Lisa and Dave Hackett and Sean; and Janelle and Don White, Anna and Sam. Many extended family members and friends will also miss his presence. His passing has left an empty space at the coffee shop and in our lives. He was predeceased by his parents, Pierre and Jeanne (née Usunier) Cancade and his sister Suzie. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, Brandon on May 22, 2008 with Fr. Dominic Yuen as Celebrant. Interment followed at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were his grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Paul may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, (Cancer Services or Palliative Care Unit), 150 McTavish Ave. East, Brandon, MB R7A 2B3.
