ANNE JAST Peacefully at Holy Family Home, on April 27, 2008, with her sister, as always by her side, Anne quietly passed away at the age of 88. Anne was born on January 6, 1920 in Winnipeg to Michael and Pearl Sarakula. After graduation from business college, she became secretary to the financial director of the Winnipeg School Division where she worked for several years. On August 7, 1943, Anne married Edmund Jast and they raised two beautiful daughters: Terese born in 1947 and Kathryn born in 1953. Anne's artistic talents were reflected in many ways. She was a marvellous seamstress assembling striking creations from children's clothing to bridesmaids' dresses. In time, her imagination turned to other areas as she assembled dolls that found homes around the world and intricate trimmings that transformed Christmas into a magical time. Anne branched into another area of craftwork when she and Ed assisted their daughter in the operation of Terese's Ceramic Studio. She and Terese taught many loyal students the art of ceramics, and mother and daughter worked side-by-side in creating hundreds of beautiful pieces. But Anne's greatest gift was relating to children. Three generations of nieces, nephews and godchildren all remember an adult who understood the essence of childhood. Anne was a second mother to many of her nieces who will miss her dearly, especially Marilyn Dolenko (Ottawa), Irene Romaniw, Pat Lewicki and their children: Michael, Kristen, Martha and Eric. The later challenges that Anne faced were always eased by the laughter of the youngest generation: Sebastian, Madelynne, Harriet, Lucy and Leo. Sadly, Anne was predeceased by her daughters, Terese in 1981, Kate in 2004; her husband Edmund in January 2008; her close friend Olive Parker in 2005; and tragically her grandnephew Steven Romaniw in April 2008. Anne will be greatly missed by her sister Olga Lewicki, who knew no boundaries to the words loyalty and encouragement ; her life-long best friend, Helen Babynec; her son-in-law Marko Wolfe-Pany (Vancouver); her niece Trish Morrison (Nelson, BC) and her nephew Raymond Jast and his family in Australia. The family would like to extend its sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff on St John's ward at Holy Family Home, and to those Homecare workers who assisted to make sure Anne's mornings got off to a positive start. Cremation has taken place. On Saturday, June 7, 2008, Divine Liturgy will be held at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. with a Basilian Father officiating, followed by the interment of both Anne and Edmund at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, R3C 2B7. Anne will long be remembered for her unfailing wish to help others, her benevolence and a strong faith that sustained her throughout her life. KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
