ELSIE CATHERINE MCINTOSH November 12, 1910 - June 1, 2008 Elsie passed away after a brief illness at Grace Hospital, with family at her side. She is survived by and will be dearly missed by her husband of almost 62 years, Richard, and her three children, Gordon McIntosh, Ina Abra (Bob), and Gail Rogers (Ben), her grandchildren Kristine D'Esterhazy (Ed) in Florida, Gregory Abra, and Benjamin and Winston Rogers, great-grandchildren Gabriel and Alison D'Esterhazy and special niece Pat Moore (Wayne). Elsie was the only child of Benjamin and Alice Goodrum (nee Gibb). She grew up on Strathcona Street, and performed with the Kentish Kiddies in Winnipeg before and during the First World War. During the Second World War, Mom went to Ft. William to help build warplanes - a real Rosie the riveter ! She worked in the Detail Assembly Department of Canada Car, on Hawker Hurricanes, Spitfires, and Curtis Hell-Divers. Mom and Dad were married on July 13, 1946, and moved into their house on McNaughton Ave. where they spent the next 56 years. While they lived there, Mom devoted herself to their growing family and her passions - bowling and knitting. She bowled regularly at the Park Alleys for more than 50 years, and her knitting included award-winning baby blankets, bedspreads and fine tablecloths. She also knit more than a hundred layettes for the Red Cross to sell as part of their fundraising efforts. More recently, she was known for knitting squares that were always underway, or tucked beside her in her wheelchair. MOTHER You can only have one mother Loving, kind and true. No other friend in all the world Will be so true to you. For all her love and kindness She asked nothing in return. If all the world deserted us To Mother we could turn. To hear her voice To see her smile To sit and talk with her a while To be together in the same old way Would be our dearest wish today. The family extends sincere thanks to the West Park Manor 2N staff for the loving care they gave Mom, to Beryl James for giving Mom and Dad such special attention and to the staff on the fourth floor of the Grace hospital for their care and compassion over the last month. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 on Saturday, June 7 at West Park Manor, 3199 Grant Avenue. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice, or take someone bowling!
