BERNARD (BERNIE) DIONNE December 20, 1947 - June 3, 2008 Following a brief struggle with cancer, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a husband, father and grandfather on Tuesday, June 3. Bernie leaves to cherish his memory, his soulmate Heather; his four children, Tracey (Ray), Mark (Heather), Ben (Rosalie) and Rory; his mother Aline; his three sisters, Denise (Morris) Earl, Annette (Dale) McComb and Liane (Andre) Simoens; his brothers-in-law, Laurent Mangin and Stewart Barker; sister-in-law Joann Bateman; 10 grandchildren, Stephanie, Carley, Brittany, Jessica, Quinn, Danielle, Luc, Isabelle, Cadence and Trinity; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, ex-wife Terry and the Pinette family. Bernie was predeceased by his father Felix, sister Yvette Mangin, brothers-in-law, Frank Kruk and Bob Bateman and mother-in-law Margaret Barker. Bernie enjoyed many career choices including being a police officer for the City of Winnipeg Police Force and then returning to university for his Social Work degree. He then worked at Tache Centre as a social worker and then as Program Manager until he retired in 2004. Retiring early, Bernie and Heather moved out to their dream home in Belair, MB. Bernie enjoyed travelling, gardening, walking in the forest, watching the deer feeding in the yard, working with his hands, camping, reading, ice fishing, playing cards, bible studies and community activities like being involved with the Pine Falls United Church. His greatest pastime was playing scrabble with his wife while enjoying a Lester Beach sunset. Bernie's integrity, honesty and compassion for others were enhanced by his joie de vivre to where no one felt like a stranger in his presence. The family would like to extend special thanks to all staff on 6A South and the Palliative Care Ward at St. Boniface Hospital for their care, compassion and support to Bernie and the family. Memorial service will take place at Trinity United Church, 933 Summerside, Winnipeg, on Monday, June 9 at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
