KAREN ANN CARR (nee PROVEN) It is with great sadness that the family announces that Karen passed away on June 5, 2008 after a brief battle with leukemia. At the beginning of this challenging battle she wrote these words The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a woman's determination . Karen was strong willed and tenacious in her struggle against this disease while at the same time always kind and gracious to those around her. Karen was predeceased by her mother Dorothy in 1994. Karen is survived by her father Jim, beloved husband, Gary; their son Michael, daughter-in-law Leila, grandchildren Brennan and Alexa. She is also survived by her only brother Keith (Morgan, Rachel, and Breanne) and sister-in-law Heather as well as special friends Carol, Marie, Yvette and Dianne. Karen was born in Barrie, Ontario on June 24, 1949. As a child Karen moved to Calgary, Alberta and then to Basswood, Manitoba where she attended Minnedosa Collegiate. It was while living in Minnedosa that she met her husband, Gary Carr. They married on June 19, 1971. During their marriage Karen and Gary lived in many Manitoba communities while Gary pursued his career. On August 2, 1976 they were thrilled with the birth of their only child Michael. As well as being a mother, Karen made a career working in various financial institutions. When the family moved to Ste. Agathe in 1988 Karen began a successful career with Canada Customs retiring in 2004 at the same time that Gary retired from the RCMP. One of the greatest joys of Karen's life was the birth of her much loved grandson Brennan James, on May 3, 2004. To her delight granddaughter Alexa Dorothy-Lyn was born on March 13, 2008. Karen loved her grandchildren with all of her heart and soul and spent many enjoyable hours with them. Karen was an extraordinary homemaker with tremendous creativity. Anyone who visited her home saw the results of her talent. Karen was very knowledgeable about world issues and entertained her friends and family with her quick wit and political satire. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. No task was too much trouble for Karen if it meant helping those that she loved. Everyone's life she touched was enriched. Special thanks to doctors, nurses and staff at GD 6 ward Health Sciences Centre.
