Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCAROLE ANNE CORONA It is with incredible sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Carole Anne Corona (nee Woodward) on June 3, 2008. Carole is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 41 years Giovanni (John), her son John Jr. (Gino) and daughter-in-law Claudia, and her new joy, granddaughter Diana. Also sisters Grace, Adele and Wendy and brothers Ed and Bruce and their families. Carole is predeceased by her mother Agnes, her dad Edward and her dog Sebastian. Carole was born in Winnipeg on March 28, 1939. Her early childhood was spent on Horace Street in Norwood and then the family moved to Helmsdale Avenue in East Kildonan. She attended Lord Selkirk High School and soon after graduation she became a flight attendant with Trans-Air. She had many adventures flying around the world and she cherished every one of them. In 1959 she met a suave Italian haberdasher named Giovanni Corona and in 1967 they married. Soon after their son Gino was born. In 1972 the Corona family moved into their little old house on Kelvin Blvd. She described it as her forever house and she worked tirelessly over the years to make it beautiful. Carole will be remembered as a vivacious and fun-loving person with tremendous energy. She seized every moment of every day and lived life fully and completely. She had that rare ability to put everyone else's needs before her own. Her thoughtfulness and generosity will not be forgotten. Carole loved parties. Whether at her home or at the beautiful cottage at Victoria Beach, she had extraordinary talent preparing meals and making all feel welcome. Carole's family will never forget all of the wonderful dinners and even though the numbers grew she never ceased to impress. As a child she travelled to Victoria Beach by train, as there was no highway. Victoria Beach got into her blood. In 1978 her and John bought their first cottage at VB, changing locations twice before ending up at 25 Bayview. That cottage was her favourite place in the world and she was thrilled to have her granddaughter Diana to the lake for the first time on the May long-weekend. Her love for the beach was contagious and it is because of her that many friends and family are there today. She began playing tennis later in life and became a fixture at both the VB courts and Taylor Tennis Club. She helped start Tennis for Charity , an annual ladies tournament which over the years has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for various charities. She was extremely proud of this endeavour and even managed to arrange a visit from Princess Anne to one of the tennis luncheons. She began taking violin lessons with her friend Ellen at the age of six. She became a polished musician and played in several orchestras, most notably the Winnipeg Pops Orchestra. Carole especially loved playing duets with her son Gino and the two spent many hours together playing tunes. Her other talents included bocce, bridge and golf. She had played only nine holes this season but managed to par her first hole of the year. She was so excited. In the last eight months all of her energies were directed towards baby Diana. She had practiced being a grandmother with all of her nieces and nephews and so caring for Diana came naturally. She was so looking forward to playing on the beach with her granddaughter. Thanks to our family, friends and neighbors for keeping us company and feeding us over the last few days. Thanks especially to Barbara Burr for your extraordinary kindness and soothing words. Carole loved Victoria Beach and was passionate about making it a better place. Amongst other efforts, she spearheaded the Best Spot in the Lot fundraiser, which led to the purchase of a defibrillator for the Victoria Beach Fire Department. In lieu of flowers please make a generous donation to the Victoria Beach Fire Department to assist them in their efforts to purchase much-needed thermal imaging equipment. Make cheques payable to the Rural Municipality of Victoria Beach and please indicate that the funds are for the Thermal Imaging Fund. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, on Monday, June 9 at 3 p.m. CHAPEL LAWN 885-9715
