IRWIN RICHARD (RICK) YASKIW Heavens Gate was opened for a very righteous, loving father and husband suddenly on June 2, 2008. Irwin Richard Yaskiw (Rick) departed on his journey to meet the Lord. Irwin Richard Yaskiw was born in the Russell hospital on December 21, 1942 to Harry and Mary Yaskiw of Rossburn, Manitoba. Irwin shared the same birthday as his loving wife Mary Ellen Yaskiw of 33 memorable years. Irwin has left behind children Stella, Gregory and Sally, grandchildren, Brayden Alexander and Sadie May and loving wife Mary Ellen Yaskiw. His surviving brothers Bob (Lynne), Jerry (Colleen) and Ron (Patricia) all miss him dearly. Nieces and nephews Steven, Kelly, Nolan, Ferrin and Susan Yaskiw and Angela Morrison have lost a dear family mentor. Irwin also leaves behind mother-in-law Stella Morrison, brother-in-law Robert G. Morrison, sister-in-law Valerie Jean Morrison (Scott McKay). He was recently predeceased by his father-in-law Robert B. Morrison. Sgt. Rick Yaskiw served 35 years with the R.C.M.P. until his retirement in 1997. Rick's most cherished memories in the R.C.M.P. were of zone commander watch duty for Pope John Paul at Birds Hill Park in 1984 and Queen Elizabeth carriage coach duty in British Columbia. Although Rick was very humble and didn't like to speak of his accomplishments, he held the classification of hostage negotiator and was a member of the tactical emergency response team in British Columbia. Rick was an excellent marksman. In his final years Rick was devoted to his beloved grandchildren Brayden and Sadie along with his family. Serving the church was a big part of his life and he took pride in all activities. Rick always put his spiritual and ethical beliefs first, instilling this into all his children . He followed the 10 Commandments and was a very faithful loving husband and father. Prayers will be held on Monday, June 9, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. with the funeral service on Tuesday, June 10, at 1:00 p.m., both being held at the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Gimli. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Neil Bardal Inc. 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
