VAL MCDONALD After a courageous battle with cancer, it is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Valdeen McDonald on Tuesday, June 3, 2008. A loving mother, wife and grandmother, she will be missed and remembered by her husband of 43 years, Dennis; her three children, Andrew (Karen), Marcia (Jack), Michelle; her five grandchildren, Ryan, Caitlin, Hayley, Gavin and Samson; her sister Judy (Al); and a large extended family. Her life enriched the lives of many and was enriched in return. Through her committed and caring work in the field of social work (Probation and Parole, Villa Rosa) to the many networks of friends she cultivated throughout her life (the Norwood group, Pi Phi friends, the Kelvin gang, P.E.O, the walking group, the Oxford Odds) people mattered most to Val. In the past few years she became an avid quilter with the help of a special friend and mentor, creating colourful keepsake quilts to brighten the homes of her loved ones. More recently she happily devoted her efforts to sewing tokens of thanks to friends who supported her during her life and her illness. Her quilts will be reminders. Her love we will carry with us always. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Cancer Care Manitoba, St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care, and to Dr. Wong, Dr. Gingrich, Dr. Sideris, and Dr. O'Connell for their care and kindness. The memorial service will be held on Monday, June 9 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Road United Church, 613 St. Mary's Rd.
