GERARD LOUIS ROY Gerald Louis Roy, 88, died Thursday, June 5, 2008, as he had wished, peacefully in his own bed, cared for by his loved ones,. Predeceased by his wife of 50 years Pauline, his older brother Raymond, half brother Roger and half sister Olive. He leaves to mourn his passing his sister Rita Marquis, brother Philippe Roy (Alice) of St. Pierre; his six children, Helene Rohn (Bryce) of Prince George; Paul, Emerson; Madeleine, Winnipeg; Claudette Abney (Michael), Emerson; Maurice (Penny) and Robert (Chrystal), St. Pierre; and also his much-loved grandchildren, Richard, Jessica, Jocelyne, Lucien, Jeff, Jordan, Catie, Cody, Carolina, and one great-grandchild, Kaileilani as well as other relatives and friends around the country. Gerry was born in Dollard, SK in 1919 and came to Manitoba during the dirty thirties' with his Dad and two brothers. He proudly served overseas for five years in the Second World War as a member of the 12th Ambulance Corps, 3rd Armoured Brigade along with his two brothers, returning to settle in St. Pierre in 1945. He married Pauline Desaulniers in 1947 and established Roy Implements, a John Deere dealership, from which he retired in 1980. Devoted to the community his entire life, Dad volunteered many hours to various sports organizations, and served on several Boards and committees including the Red River School Division, Knights of Columbus Executive (as Grand Knight, District Deputy and State Advocate) Chamber of Commerce, Centre Recreatif, and DeSalaberry Hospital. His special interests included curling and golfing, as well as maintaining his yard and gardens at the family home where he and Pauline raised their family. One of Dad's special projects was donating the land and helping in the development of the Parc Carillon in St. Pierre, enjoyed by residents ever since and for years to come. In retirement he and Mom enjoyed many years of traveling south in their motor home, meeting many friends, old and new. The family wishes to thank Dr. Migally and staff of St. Pierre Hospital for their excellent care and attention to Dad during his recent hospital stay. Special thanks to Blythe Boese, Palliative Care Nurse, of Emerson for her help and support in Dad's last month. Dad, you will be sadly missed and always remembered for your wisdom, sense of humor, and joie de vivre'. Till we meet again. In accordance with Dad's wishes, cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be held at St. Pierre Catholic Church, on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. Flowers gratefully declined however if desired donations may be made to the DeSalaberry Medico Centre in St. Pierre.
