Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHENRY (HARRY) DENIS BUCHAN April 19, 1918 - May 15, 2008 With sadness and much love our family announces the passing of our dear Harry, at 90 years of age. Harry slipped away peacefully surrounded by his family and all their love. He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife Violet, his daughter Linda Kathleen Simons and her husband Richard, his son Denis, Harry's grandchildren Carly (Marc), Todd (Danna), and Sean, Marilyn Buchan (Sean's mom), and great-grandchildren Violet, Isaac and new baby Hunter. As well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. Harry was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, served in the RCAF during the Second World War and moved to Vancouver in 1949 with his beautiful bride Violet. They were completely devoted to each other and would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in August of this year. Harry loved their cabin on Galiano Island, their cottage at Laclu Ontario, their yearly vacation in Hawaii and all the wonderful trips and cruises that he and Vie took through the years. Harry was well known in the Kerrisdale/Point Grey area of Vancouver as proprietor of Buchan's Kerrisdale Stationery which he founded in 1957. He will be remembered for his loving and kind nature, his integrity and wonderful outlook on life. He was the epitome of good health and independence and remained active with a sharp mind, sense of humour, and strong interest in friends and family. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses who took care of him during his final week spent at VGH. Their care and support made his last days and hours ones of comfort. They were all angels to us as a family. To honour Harry, donations may be sent to the Tributes Program at VGH Foundation in his memory, especially directed to the 16th Floor Palliative Care Program , where he received such loving care. Email: yourgifthelpssupportvghca For all those who knew Harry, you know how he loved a good martini and a well played game of golf. We believe he is enjoying both now! Harry wanted to dedicate the following poem to all those he left behind: Death is nothing at all. I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I, you are you. Whatever we are to each other, that we still are. Call me by my old familiar name. Speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference in your tone: Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed At the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me and pray for me. Let my name be the household word That it always was. Let it be spoken without effect, Without the ghost of a shadow on it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was: There is absolutely unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you, for an interval, Just around the corner. All is well.
