EDWARD OLINYK January 8, 1940 June 4, 2008 Peacefully on Wednesday, June 4, 2008, Edward Olinyk passed away at the age of 68 years old. He leaves to mourn his daughters, Candice, Lori (Steve), his only son Allan (Dawn), loving spouse Agnes Tkachyk and only granddaughters, Crimson and Brandy Childs. He is predeceased by his parents, Michael and Josephine, sister Lena and brothers, Mike and Bill. He is survived by brothers, Ernie (Bev), Pete (Stella), sisters, Anne, Rosemary, Florence, Olga, Mary, sisters-in-law, Christine and Joanne, and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours. Ed was born and raised in Sclater, MB, being the youngest of 11 children. Later, he moved to Toronto for a short period before returning to Winnipeg. He met Annie (nee: Basaraba) in Winnipeg, married in 1967 and they eventually settled in St. Andrews, MB to raise their family. Ed worked as a mechanic at Trailmobile for over 20 years to support his family, in addition to his hobby farm. His passion for farming grew and prospered over the years and he was an active member of the farming community. He was often called upon for advice or assistance in farming, which he did for 33 years. His hobbies included watching football and hockey, he enjoyed curling in Petersfield and dancing at various social events. He thoroughly enjoyed driving his John Deere tractor and various farming equipment. When the opportunity arose, he loved to fish with the boys. In his later years, he met Agnes Tkachyk and they resided at the family farm for their retirement. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service was held on Friday, June 6 at 10:00 a.m. at Gilbart Funeral Home in Selkirk, MB and was officiated by Father Richard Soo. Interment followed at the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Donald Road in St. Andrews. A lunch was held at Rossdale Hall to celebrate Ed's life. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made by making a donation in Ed's memory to Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Grace Hospital for their care and consideration, the ladies of Rossdale Hall and Blessed Virgin Mary church for their support during this difficult time.
